Chapter 3: The Rest of the Event Day
Introduction
Match play fills most of the hours on your schedule, but it does not start on its own, and it is not the last thing that happens.
Before the first match can be called, every team has to arrive and be accounted for, every robot has to be checked against the rules of the game, and everyone in the room needs to hear the same information about how the day will run. Once matches are underway, some events also hold judging, where volunteers review notebooks and meet with teams to learn about the work behind their robots. And when the last match is over, everyone gathers one more time to hand out awards.
These are the activities that turn a set of matches into an event. Each one has a place in the day, people attached to it, and a part in making sure every team is treated the same way. As an Event Partner, much of your job is knowing what each piece is, when it happens, and who is responsible for that work.
The time to complete this chapter is approximately 30 minutes.
