Chapter 5: Running Your Event
Introduction
Your event is planned and posted, your volunteers are recruited, and the date is close.
Running an event is a different kind of work than planning one. Planning was a series of decisions you made over weeks, mostly on your own time. Event day is a group of people doing their jobs at the same time in the same room — a Head Referee ruling on match play, Queuers moving teams to the fields, an event software operator keeping the schedule and the fields lined up. Your part is how those pieces fit together, and that is work you can only do if you are not assigned to a station yourself.
The work also does not stop when the teams leave. Results are due within 48 hours, the venue goes back the way you found it, and what you write down as you review your event is what makes your next event easier to plan.
The time to complete this chapter is approximately 45 minutes.
In This Chapter
This chapter covers what an Event Partner does from the weeks before the event through the days after it. You will prepare the communications, the space, and the materials that make event day possible, learn what your role looks like once the day starts and your volunteers are running their stations, and walk through the closeout an event needs after teams leave.
