Chương 3 Robot Skills for Referees

Introduction

Robot Skills Matches are a separate part of VEX V5 Robotics Competition events. Unlike Head-to-Head Matches, a Robot Skills Match is played by one team at a time, with one robot trying to score as many points as possible in one minute.

Robot Skills Matches offer opportunities for individual teams to showcase their driving and coding skills at a competition.

Robot Skills scores are separate from Head-to-Head Match scores and do not directly affect the results of Qualification or Elimination Matches. Instead, teams who choose to participate in Robot Skills are ranked based on their combined Driving and Autonomous Coding Skills scores. Robot Skills Matches are optional for teams, but participating in them may open eligibility for some awards.

Referees support Robot Skills fields during competition events, so it is important that both Scorekeeper Referees and Head Referees understand the mechanics of Robot Skills Matches, how they are scored, and the rules that apply. The procedures at a Robot Skills field may look different from a Head-to-Head field, but the goal is the same: help teams complete their matches safely, fairly, and consistently.

The time to complete this chapter is approximately 30 minutes.

In This Chapter

In this chapter, you will learn how Robot Skills Matches are structured and how they differ from Head-to-Head Matches. You will also learn how Robot Skills scores are evaluated, when and why a score should be recorded as zero, and how referees support teams who choose to end a Robot Skills Match early.

Note: This chapter completes the shared foundation for all referees before the Scorekeeper Referee Certification Exam. After completing the Chapter Exams for Chapters 1 through 3, you will take your first Certification Exam to earn your Scorekeeper Referee Certificate. Upon completion, the following chapters will become available to continue on for Head Referee Certification.
