Using IQ 2nd generation Builds with 1st generation Kits
We have received some great feedback from educators using the IQ 2nd generation builds and STEM Labs over the last several months. Teachers have delighted in using a Clawbot build that is easier and faster to assemble, students are really excited during the classroom competitions, and more.
Well that’s great, but what if you have 1st generation Kits? Guess what? Here is a build for the 2nd generation Clawbot using 1st generation materials!
With this build you can do more with the IQ Kits you already have. You can use this .step file, parts list, and the image above, to help you build the IQ 2nd generation Clawbot with your existing Kits.
Here are a few tips to help you be successful:
- View steps 18 and 19 of the Clawbot build instructions for vital rubber band placement.
- The Omni-Wheels shown in the builds are not included in the IQ (1st gen) Kit. These wheels can be replaced with normal directional wheels, or can be purchased additionally at 200mm Travel Omni-Directional Wheel (2-pack) - VEX Robotics.
This is a great way to ‘spice up’ your 1st generation Kits, and gives your students another build to explore, iterate on, and code. The 2nd generation Clawbot build is used in both the Up and Over STEM Lab Unit and the Cube Collector STEM Lab Unit. What other builds or designs would you like to learn more about?
